“They should always pray and not give up.”
These are the words that begin one of Jesus’ most honest and challenging parables — the story of a powerless widow who keeps pleading for justice from a judge who couldn’t care less.
It’s not a feel-good story. It’s a story rooted in deep injustice, silence, and waiting. And yet, Jesus tells it to encourage us — because he knows how easy it is to grow weary in prayer, to lose heart, to wonder if God is listening.
This Sunday, we’re reflecting on what persistent prayer really means — not as a way of wearing God down, but as a way of staying grounded in hope, especially when the world gives us every reason to give up.
We’ll also hear the powerful story of a woman in Guatemala whose journey through grief and rage led her into healing — not through easy answers, but through honest, painful, faithful prayer. Her story is a living example of what happens when we refuse to let suffering have the final word.
And we’re inviting you to take that same spirit of prayer beyond the sanctuary:
On October 27, we’ll gather for a Prayer Vigil at the Miami Correctional Facility, praying for undocumented persons detained — individuals who are often forgotten, unheard, and unseen.
This isn’t a protest. It’s an act of faithful presence.
It’s how we live the parable — by showing up, by praying persistently, and by standing in solidarity with those who suffer.
If you’ve ever felt like your prayers weren’t enough…
If you’ve ever been tempted to give up…
If you’re longing to hope again…
Join us.
Because persistent prayer doesn’t just change outcomes — it changes us.
And through us, it might just change the world.
